SEO (search engine optimization) is optimizing your web site or blog so that search engines (such as Google.com) can easily find, index and rank your web site within the first three pages of results.

Here is an example:

In a Google search for “mystery suspense novel writer,” my client Stephen J. Cannell appears multiple times on the first page, including his web site (Cannell.com) and on social media sites (Revver and Metacafe video).

Likewise, when customers and clients search for your products and services, you want your company to be one of the first listings they see on Google and other search engines.

There are three components of SEO:

1. Keyword Search and Placement
2. Link Building
3. Social Media

Keyword Search and Placement

Keyword search requires attention to detail and careful selection of words that will bring the greatest ROI (return-on-investment). The selection is narrowed by using keyword databases from major providers including:

* Trellian’s KeywordDiscovery tool
* Wordtracker
* Google Keyword Tools

Here is an example of keyword search using Wordtracker.com:

Keyword placement is placing your keywords on strategic areas of your web site that are indexed by Google.

(Please note: I do not use “black hat” tricks that may bring temporary success, but can result in your site being banned by Google and search engines. I use only “white hat” SEO).

Link Building

Also crucial to SEO is link building. Correct link building (1) raises your ranking in search engines like Google and (2) brings in customers from community web sites (think of these as online town halls).

My link building services include:

* Link Recommendations
* Social Media Sites
* Well Ranked Industry Sites & Pages
* Directory Links
* Opportunities for Issuing Articles/Press Releases
* Community/Forum/Blog Links

Here is an example of directory links via submission to search engines:

Social Media

Another powerful SEO and link building tool is social media (read more about my social media services). By linking your site to social media sites you gain greater exposure, increased rankings in search engines and more traffic. Here are just a few of the more popular social media sites:

Finally, I search engine optimize (SEO) your social media profile(s) in order to rank strongly on Google and other search engines. For example, in a Google search for SEO Web Writer, my twitter page comes on the first page of Google, near the top.
