(Peet's Coffee
Wackiness" Westside Today May 2005)
One of the best locations for free Internet in Brentwood is the Peet’s
coffee across the street from Whole Foods and the Whole Food’s free
wifi signal. I can get my medium iced mocha, log on and work the entire
day.
Peet's draws a diverse and eclectic group of customers; so diverse and
eclectic that I can honestly say I would never encounter these folks,
if left to my own choosing. In fact, I would do everything in my power
to avoid them.
There is "Sandy," an old man who spends hours going through the
newspaper, quickly turning pages, slamming each one down at a furious
pace. If you sit next to him, make sure he has enough elbow room or you
may loose a few teeth!
There's also "Bill," a geriatric right wing republican who honestly
doesn't think Bush lied about WMD as a pretense to invade Iraq. I think
he needs to drink more Peet's Coffee and less White House Kool Aid.
"Bob" is a retiree and liberal activist who hands me the latest left
wing news (that he has printed out) on why the "Republican Party is
doomed." And, no, he doesn't sit near Bill.
"Margot" is a middle-aged woman that I'm convinced is stalking me, but
then again, I tend to be paranoid and haven't had a date this year.
Who can forget "Chris" who always wants to use my laptop. Hey Chris,
there's a big building called a "library" one block away; didn't I say
this Peet's was conveniently located?
Because this Peet's is on the Westside of Los Angeles, I have seen a
few celebrities. Marcia Cross often ducks in her to avoid the
paparazzi. David Hasselhoff takes walks outside (without his daughter),
and Geena Davis once sat near me and... gave me "the eye." Or was
that Margot?
Nowhere else on earth could I get this much great writing material, and
stupendous coffee, but at Peet's.
