The Top 5 Private Detective Television Shows of All Time

I have watched over 90,000 hours of violent TV shows, and that was before the age of 10. According to the so-called experts, I should be an axe-wielding maniac! But the truth is I learned some valuable life lessons based upon my electronic childhood. Here are my top 5 private detective television shows and the lessons they taught me.
Created by Stephen J. Cannell, The Rockford Files, starring James Garner as Jim Rockford, really broke the mold. For the first time on TV. here was a private detective who would actually quit a case if it got too rough! Jim Rockford taught me that there’s no shame in quitting, in fact, it might just save your life!
Charlie’s Angels was the TV show that taught me about women (hard to believe I’m still single!). I also learned about women’s prisons because it seemed like the angels were always going undercover there for some odd reason.
I had an enormous crush on Farrah Fawcett and was heartbroken when she left the show. But I got a huge break when she did a play in Jupiter, Florida, at the Burt Reynolds Dinner theater. I whined and whined until my mother took me. I was 12-years-old and could not believe my eyes when Farrah Fawcett stepped foot on the stage in the flesh! This was right after she left Charlie’s Angels, in her prime!
Sergeant Pepper Anderson wasn’t actually a private detective, she was a cop, but she did a lot of private detective things, like undercover work, in Police Woman. This great show, starring Angie Dickinson, also taught me about women and police procedure.
After Police Woman went off the air, Angie Dickinson starred in a great movie thriller, Dressed to Kill, directed by Brian DePalma. She was worried the R-rated film would ruin her heroine image, especially the shower scene, but she was still a hero in my book!
Columbo taught me that even a guy with a glass eye can be a detective. Like Police Woman, Peter Falk was technically a police detective, but this is still a classic show. A great Columbo move is to pretend you don’t know what you’re doing so that people will think you’re a dope and spill the beans. I’ve actually tried that tactic, but people just thought I was a dope. Hmmm… Seriously, this show featured some of the best writers in TV, including Steven Bochco who went on to to create Hill Street Blues and a bunch of other shows.
Murder, She Wrote featured Angela Lansbury as mystery writer and amateur detective Jessica Fletcher. Amazingly, this senior citizen somehow physically subdued the bad guys, although I can’t recall exactly how!
Also an honorable mention has to go to Mannix, probably one of the most violent private detective shows. Mannix had an enormous body count, not to mention Mannix himself usually got shot in the shoulder, or leg, in every single episode and came back next week to take another bullet.

Getting information about a doctor’s past can be far more difficult than running a criminal check on the average person. This is because medical boards (which are run by doctors) have traditionally tried to keep this info top secret.
